Statement of the student body of the University of Bonn on the draft of the Higher Education Strengthening Act

At the end of October, the Bonn student body was asked to submit a statement on the draft of the Higher Education Strengthening Act as part of a hearing of associations.

Under the leadership of our Department fpor University Policy, we worked through the more than 300-page long draft and worked out the key points for the statement. It quickly became clear that there were positive aspects, such as the intended introduction of quarter parity, but also aspects that should be viewed very critically, such as the tightening of Ordnungsrecht against students. These key points were then discussed in various rounds of talks within the student body, the university and also in the Landes ASten meetings. We received input from the student councils in particular, but also from cooperating initiatives. Based on the results, the statement was then written by the AStA and unanimously supported by the student parliament on 11.12.2024.

The complete statement (only in German) can be accessed via this link.

Together with the student senators, we also took various points to the meeting of the Senate of the University of Bonn, where we were praised by the Chair of the Senate for the comprehensiveness of the statement. Unfortunately, many of our points were not included in the university's statement to the extent we had hoped.
